The Libertarian Party believes that National Parks should be accessible to all regardless of your family tree especially given that their maintenance is dependent on our taxes!
This week on the 5th of November the NSW State Government announced that they will expand and strengthen joint management partnership plans with Aboriginal communities with the eventual goal that all national parks will be jointly managed.
The government's announcement says:
"New South Wale's national parks will continue to befor everyone, with a guarantee of continued ongoing community access for tourism, conservation and recreation, subject to existing restrictions for matters such as safety and sites of environmental or cultural sensitivity."
This sly announcement (released under the cover of the distraction of the US election) means bogus safety concerns or secretive Aboriginal cultural matters can prohibit public access to any national park in New South Wales.
Since 2022 the Coalition and Labor Governments have committed to the below as part of the new model for the Aboriginal Joint Management Model for National Parks:
"the transfer of title (or co-ownership) to potentially all national parks over the next 15 to 20 years to Aboriginal people"
Libertarians do not believe in giving special rights based on family trees.
We are distressed when government's do allocate special rights based on family tree because we know it is counter-productive to those it is intended to help.
I call upon the Minister for the Environment to end this race-based approach and make our National Parks great again!
