The Libertarian Party is a diverse group of patriotic Australians who share a common vision for our country: less taxes and more freedom. One of the most recognisable symbols of liberty is the historic Gadsden flag, featuring a rattlesnake and the words “Don’t Tread On Me.” The rattlesnake, though fearsome looking, is not aggressive - it only strikes when threatened. That spirit of self-defence and independence has long inspired libertarians. Our logo embodies that same spirit by combining the torch of liberty with the echidna - a uniquely Australian creature that also defends itself only when provoked. Libertarians want to be free to live their lives how they choose. We step into politics not to control the lives of others, but to secure those freedoms for all Australians.
The Party stands for individual liberty, free markets and small government. It regards government as the principal threat to these values and therefore seeks to reduce its intrusion into our lives to the lowest level possible consistent with the preservation of a civilised society. It aims to restore to individuals the right to make their own choices and to accept responsibility for their consequences, on the basis that they make better decisions than government. The following Principles represent its enduring values.
