Our Principles

The Libertarian Party is a diverse group of patriotic Australians who share a common vision for our country, less taxes and more freedom. The flag on the right is the Gadsden flag which is a popular symbol of liberty loved by many libertarians.

The rattlesnake, although fearsome looking, is a non-aggressive animal, and only when confronted with an agressor (or stepped upon) will it strike back in defence. Hence the words "Dont Tread On Me". Our party embodies that same spirit. Libertarians want to be free to live their lives how they choose. We enter the political realm not to control the lives of others, but for the sake of securing those freedoms for all Australians.

This below is an excerpt from Article 7 (Principles) of our Constitution:

The Party stands for individual liberty, free markets and small government. It regards government as the principal threat to these values and therefore seeks to reduce its intrusion into our lives to the lowest level possible consistent with the preservation of a civilised society. It aims to restore to individuals the right to make their own choices and to accept responsibility for their consequences, on the basis that they make better decisions than government. The following Principles represent its enduring values.
