Dear Residents of Macquarie
I’m Joaquim De Lima, your Libertarian Party candidate for Macquarie in the 2025 Federal Election—my 10th election with the party. Born in Brazil, I immigrated to Australia as a child with my software engineer parents, who arrived self-sufficient and employed, reflecting our party’s immigration policy of restricting welfare to citizens and requiring a 10-year residency for citizenship (see other side for details).
We settled in Bondi Beach, but rising costs and my parents’ separation led me to relocate across Greater Sydney—Bondi, Rydalmere, North Ryde, Erskine Park, Windsor, North Rocks, and Epping. This exposed me to diverse public schools, shaping my support for abolishing the Federal Department of Education and empowering families with a school voucher system.
In 2001, I grew passionate about free speech, privacy, and geopolitics. By 2008, I joined the Libertarian Party, established a self-managed super fund, and began practising target shooting and hunting. In 2011, I documented Occupy Sydney at Martin Place, filming its eviction and reinforcing my commitment to enshrining free speech in the Constitution, opposing digital IDs, and exiting global agreements that undermine sovereignty.
In 2010, I moved to the Blue Mountains, where I live today. My three children were home-birthed and are homeschooled, despite government regulations limiting homebirth midwives and raw milk access. This fuels my support for scaling back regulatory agencies, raising the tax-free threshold to $50,000 for individuals and $100,000 for couples, and making superannuation voluntary (see other side).
During COVID, as a remote IT worker for NSW Health, I documented policy breaches on social media, but mandates forced me to leave my role. I protested in Canberra in 2022 and faced unemployment due to government overreach, strengthening my stance on medical freedom.
I’m not a career politician—just an IT professional and father who’s lived Libertarian values my entire adult life. I believe everyday Australians should govern, and I’m ready to serve with your support.
Let’s keep Australia free and prosperous!
