A Libertarian Vision

Policies for prosperity, family and freedom.

The Libertarian Party is committed to empowering Australians by proposing bold, ambitious policies that foster prosperity, protect families, and restore freedom. Our 2025 Federal Election platform is built on the libertarian principles of personal freedom, private property rights, free markets, small government, and equality before the law. Click through the key areas to understand how we’re shaping a brighter future for Australians.

1. Economy

Economic freedom is at the heart of the Libertarian Party’s beliefs – a principle that ensures the rewards of your hard work stay with you and your family. By lowering taxes, simplifying the tax system, letting you keep more of your own money, reducing red tape, and empowering businesses to grow, the Libertarian Party is committed to creating choice and opportunity for all Australians.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Raise the income tax-free threshold to $50,000 for individuals and $100,000 for couples, indexed to inflation.
  • Move towards a low, flat tax rate of 10% on income above the tax-free threshold.
  • Reduce the company tax rate to 0% and tax distributed earnings at the same rate as income tax.
  • Abolish the 50.8c/L tax on petrol (fuel excise).
  • Make superannuation voluntary to give individuals control over their own savings.
  • Reduce government involvement in the economy by reducing the ATO workforce by 50%, scaling back regulatory agencies (eg. ASIC, ACCC), and privatising the NBN.

2. Money

A major cause for the rising cost of living is inflation, the endless printing of new currency by governments and central banks. It is an insideous tax that silently erodes your wealth, diminishing the value of your hard-earned money. By returning to sound money backed by tangible assets, such as gold and silver, and fostering competition in currency, the Libertarian Party will protect your savings and promote financial stability for all Australians.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Restrict the focus of the Reserve Bank (while it exists) to maintaining a stable money supply.
  • Limit government debt to 60% of its assets and prioritise paying it down with asset sales.
  • Recognise alternative currencies such as gold, silver, and Bitcoin, to foster financial competition and stability.

3. Energy

Australia’s natural resources are key to delivering cheap, reliable energy that empowers families and drives economic growth. Our "no bans, no subsidies" policy will abolish unnecessary regulations driven by climate alarmism, allowing a return to a prosperous, innovative and competitive energy market.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Enforce a "no bans, no subsidies" policy, allowing competition between energy providers to drive down costs for energy sources.
  • Abolish renewable energy targets, including net-zero goals, in favour of competition in the energy market.
  • Repeal the ban on nuclear energy to provide cleaner, cost-effective options for the future.
  • Protect public land from destructive wind and solar developments that harm natural environments.

4. Education

Education is a lifelong journey of discovery and growth, best guided by families who understand the choices they must make to help their children thrive. Unfortunately, government-run systems stifle innovation, limit choice, and prioritise bureaucracy and schooling over quality outcomes. Excessive regulations block competition, while growing childcare subsidies fail to deliver better care. The Libertarian Party champions a system driven by choice and accountability, where competition fosters higher-quality education and opportunities for all.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Empower families to choose their children’s education with a school voucher system that allows funding to follow the child.
  • Reduce the red tape to establish a childcare, school, or university to allow innovation and creativity in the market.
  • Allow parents and communities to form homeschool co-ops or micro-schools that can cater to their children's needs and strengths.
  • Abolish the Federal Department of Education.

5. Women & Children

The rights of women to establish and maintain female-only spaces, like sports and changing rooms, is increasingly under threat, while changes to the Sex Discrimination Act have been weaponised to further erode freedom of association. Parents or legal guardians must be involved in any discussion or treatment if a child is questioning their gender. Encouraging children to embrace their inherent worth and biological bodies is essential, yet irreversible medical interventions often overshadow this approach. The Libertarian Party advocates for restoring clarity and parental rights to ensure women’s freedoms and children’s well-being are protected.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Restore the legal definition of a "woman" in the Sex Discrimination Act.
  • Ensure that women have the freedom to create and maintain exclusive spaces.
  • Repeal legislation that forces women to accept biological men into bathrooms, changerooms, or clubs.
  • Allow sporting bodies to establish female-only categories and exclude biological men from women's sport.
  • Restrict gender transition surgery and hormone treatment to adults.
  • Ensure that parents, psychologists, chaplains, and health practitioners can affirm an individuals inherent worth or encourage acceptance of their biological bodies.

6. Immigration

The Libertarian Party believes in private property rights, including the right for property owners to exclude unwanted and unproductive guests. We support a system that prioritises skilled workers, discourages welfare tourism, avoids admitting unproductive immigrants and maximises the benefits of restricted migration while minimising the costs.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Introduce a signficant immigration fee to ensure new arrivals contribute appropriately to existing infrastructure and public services.
  • Phase out the bureaucratic system in favour of an auction of sustainable places from vetted candidates.
  • Limit short-term visas to a maximum of five years.
  • Ensure citizenship is only granted to individuals who have lived in Australia for 10 years, passed a basic citizenship test, and demonstrated self-sufficiency.
  • Restrict welfare, including unemployment, social housing, and pensions, to citizens only.
  • Avoid agreements or treaties with global organisations that undermine Australia's ability to determine its own immigration decisions.

7. Free Speech

Free speech is the cornerstone of liberty, allowing ideas to flourish, challenge, and improve. The Libertarian Party will protect your right to speak freely and ensure Australians can engage in open, meaningful dialogue without fear of censorship online or in public.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Enshrine free speech into the Australian Constitution.
  • Abolish Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
  • Oppose or repeal all misinformation and disinformation legislation.
  • Protect the right of medical practitioners to freely express their medical opinions.
  • Privatise government funded media outlets, like ABC and SBS.

8. Privacy

Your privacy is essential to living freely without government interference. The Libertarian Party will defend your right to live without mass surveillance, unjust data collection, or invasive digital ID systems.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Oppose government digital IDs that intrude on everyday life.
  • Not interfere with an individuals ability to use social media, or require social media companies to verify a users identity.
  • Abolish the office of the eSafety Commissioner.
  • End mass surveillance laws and government programs that treat citizens like suspects.
  • Preserve the ability to use cash, and deregulate technologies like Bitcoin to protect financial privacy and autonomy.

9. Foreign Affairs

Peace, prosperity, and national sovereignty should guide Australia’s role in the world. The Libertarian Party desires to emulate Switzerland’s independent and non-interventionist stance. We oppose foreign wars and foreign aid, promote diplomacy, and will ensure taxpayer funds are used to build stability at home, not aggression abroad. Our foreign policy champions peace, independence, and collaboration, focusing on trade, partnerships, and mutual respect while renouncing violence and coercion.

The Libertarian Party will:

  • Maintain a strong military for national defence.
  • Avoid military deployment for conflicts unrelated to Australia’s direct security.
  • Pursue an independent foreign policy free from the influence or demands of other states or international organisations.
  • Withdraw from international bodies and treaties, such as the UNHCR, WHO, OECD, G20, or ICC, that compromise Australia’s national sovereignty.
  • Prioritise free trade and peaceful coexistence.
