Joshua Beer for Kiama

Dear Kiama Residents,

I am your Libertarian Candidate for the Kiama State By-Election on Saturday, 13th September 2025.

For most of my adult life, I have been a disability support worker and a teacher, with experience in Special Ed and schools in Outback NSW. For many years I have volunteered with homelessness charities and at my local church.

I am fighting for lower taxes and wants to end wasteful government spending. I want to see reform in the school curriculum to focus on literacy, numeracy, and practical skills, rather than the “woke” nonsense and climate alarmism all too common today. I oppose the proposed offshore windfarm which the Kiama residents have spoken out against and I stand for free speech, which is the foundation of freedom itself.

I understand the needs of regional communities like Kiama and I will stand up to the big city bureaucrats. I ask for your support to send a strong message to the State Government. Together we can change things for the better. Together we can have a freer Kiama!

Yours in Liberty,

Joshua Beer

1. Save Our Coasts! No Offshore Wind Farms!

Reckless climate alarmism and government mandates have turned Kiama's coastline into an offshore wind zone playground for subsidised cronies. These schemes jack up power prices, ruin our views and marine life, and collapse without taxpayer bailouts (as BlueFloat's folding proves). It’s time to end foolish net-zero targets, scrap subsidies and unleash market-driven energy for cheaper, reliable power that puts Kiama families first.

2. Empower Parents Not Woke Bureaucrats!

As a teacher, I've seen firsthand how ideologically-driven bureaucrats are failing our kids in schools, from mouldy classrooms to teacher burnout and one-size-fits-all curricula. The Libertarian Party's vision is one of school vouchers that puts funding in parents' hands, letting all schools compete for enrolments and giving families real choice in education. Competition breeds excellence, and no-one should have to co-parent with the government.

3. Slash Taxes and Government Fees!

The biggest driver of our cost of living crisis is the bloated cost of government. Out of control COVID spending sparked runaway inflation, while high taxes, revenue-grabbing fines and soaring government service fees keep draining the wallets of Kiama families. Government must live within its means, scrap wasteful spending on frivolous vanity projects, and let you keep more of your hard-earned money.

4. Defend Free Speech in Kiama and Beyond!

The Minns Labor Government has savagely attacked free speech, embarrassingly rushing flawed hate speech laws through parliament in response to what turned out to be a criminal con job involving fabricated incidents. The Liberals have fared little better, voting against the Libertarian Party's Bill to enshrine free speech in the NSW Constitution. If elected, I'll move to repeal these draconian laws and protect your right to speak your mind by pushing for constitutional safeguards.
