It’s Not a Cost-of-Living Crisis, it’s a Cost-of-Government Crisis!
Taxpayers across New South Wales are struggling to put food on the table, keep the lights on, and pay off skyrocketing mortgages. Yet the Minns Labor Government somehow found $100,000 in taxpayer hand-outs to bankroll the controversial “Divine Playhouse” pop-up venture through Create NSW.
This is a direct slap in the face to every hard-working family in our state.
Make no mistake: everyday families are not suffering because of bad luck. We are living through a cost-of-government crisis. Bureaucrats and politicians continue to siphon hard-earned money out of your paychecks only to throw thousands at pet arts projects and niche entertainment venues. Government overreach and wasteful public spending are directly driving up the cost of everyday life.
What is the Divine Playhouse?
Originally launched by event group Heaps Gay under the name Unholy Playhouse, Divine Playhouse is a temporary arts, performance, and nightlife pop-up supported by state government grants. After facing eviction from its original CBD location following heavy public controversy, protests, and legal disputes over its operations, the venture was relocated to major public institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) at Circular Quay.
Our Demand: End the Taxpayer Handouts
It is not the job of taxpayers to prop up private ventures, arts troupes, or pop-up venues. Free markets demand accountability and voluntary exchange:
- No More Arts Welfare - End state-funded grants for commercial entertainment and niche pop-up clubs.
- Respect Working Families - Stop treating taxpayers like an open ATM for political pet projects.
- Stand on Their Own Feet - If the Divine Playhouse cannot attract paying customers and turn a profit on its own merit, it should be shut down immediately.
We need your voice to demand fiscal responsibility and force government accountability. By signing this petition, you stand with the NSW Libertarians against government waste and overreach.
Sign the petition today to demand an end to wasteful arts subsidies and stop taxpayer funding for Divine Playhouse!
